Certified Translations in Italy

We provide both standard translations and sworn (certified) translations in the main European languages.

A sworn translation (also called a certified translation) is an official translation with legal value in Italy and in many other countries. It is required for documents submitted to public authorities, courts, universities or administrative institutions, such as birth certificates, diplomas, notarial deeds, contracts, court judgments and more.

How does a sworn translation work?

To obtain a sworn translation in Italy, the following steps are required:

1. Document translation
   A professional translator accurately translates the original document.

2. Preparing the translation file
   The file must include:

   • The original document (or a copy if required).
   • The translation.
   • A sworn declaration of accuracy.
     
     

3. Swearing before a court, notary or justice of the peace
   The translator appears before a Court, Justice of the Peace or Notary and declares under oath that the translation faithfully reflects the original document. The public official then stamps and signs the document, giving it legal validity.

4. Revenue stamp application
   In most cases, a €16 revenue stamp every 4 pages of translation is required (except for certain documents such as academic or judicial use).
